Leading in the worng state of mind.
When we were assigned the topic of antiheroes I got a little worried. I could think of many people who I personally considered an antihero but when it came to explaining why they were an antihero, I couldn’t quite explain it. I mean many people make mistakes, but does that make them an antihero? I don’t think so, it can consider them a “bad” person. However I don’t think its enough to consider them an antihero.
But what if they do more then make a minor mistake? Does that then make them an antihero? I believe it can, depending on the intensity of the situation. Which leads me to my main focus.
Bill Clinton.
To many hes an idle, many have no opinion on him. But to me hes a disgrace. I feel that as a president he was very successful, he did a very good job in office and kept America in good spirit and on a good track. However as the president of the United States, its an obvious fact that your personal life, can and does effect the position of office. And i feel that what Bill Clinton did, not only to his wife, but to the world, was uncalled for in more ways then i can express.
Cheating is a sin, Lying is also a sin, combining them together, now that’s just a predicament that no one wants involved with. Monica Lewinsky was her name. Bill not only had an affair on his wife, but he lied about it to the entire world.
The affair itself made a huge impact on pretty much the entire world. I remember when it happened, at first he claimed he did not have sexual relations with her.by saying “But I want to say one thing to the American people. I want you to listen to me. I’m going to say this again: I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. I never told anybody to lie, not a single time — never. These allegations are false. And I need to go back to work for the American people.” Then during his speech on August 17, 1998, Clinton admitted to the relationship. His exact quote being, “Indeed, I did have a relationship with Miss Lewinsky that was not appropriate. In fact, it was wrong. It constituted a critical lapse in judgment and a personal failure on my part for which I am solely and completely responsible. ”
Immediately after admitting to the affair, Clinton went on saying he at no point had anyone lie or hide things for him. This minor action is what i would consider the “hero” part of him. He messed up, and knew he did. Whether he felt bad about it or not is unknown, but he took the responsibility for his own reactions. Though during his speech he made a comment about regretting his actions by saying, “I know that my public comments and my silence about this matter gave a false impression. I misled people, including even my wife. I deeply regret that.”
What president Clinton did was wrong, though he may not have thought so. Though his actions did not tear apart his marriage, it did however cause his job as president to become more difficult.
Clinton was tried for impeachment in 1999. He was tried for many reasons other then lying to the nation about his affair. One of which being the “Travelgate” scandal where seven long-time employees were fired and replaced by friends of the Clintons’. In an article posted by The History Place, it was stated that Clinton has 11 impeachable offenses against him during his time of office. Due to the voting process, Clinton was able to finish out his term as president.
The actions of Clinton, in my eyes make him not only a bad and untrustworthy person, but an antihero.
